Year 8 Music Assessment
The Year 8 Music Assessment will take place in a Music lesson during the Assessment Week (w/c 15th March)
N.B If students are studying Drama at this time, the Music Assessment will take place before half-term ( w/c 8th February).
The examination will last for the whole lesson.
There will be 50 marks split across the assessment areas of listening and appraising, performance and composing.
The assessment will involve a live performance followed by an online assessment.

Students will have explored and developed multiple music skills across the first two terms including: Performance, Composition and Listening and Appraising.
During the assessment, students will first undertake a practical assessment and then complete an online assessment testing the key terms and knowledge they have learnt throughout the year.
Students will be assessed individually through a live performance of a provided musical piece. The teacher will mark the performance in real-time, with the expectation that students demonstrate their prior musical knowledge and technical abilities.
Please note that playing a musical instrument—whether through private tuition or self-teaching—is fundamental to a student's success when choosing GCSE Music in Year 10.
